to the 7th century on the basis of its architectural details. The precise date of its founding is still unknown, however its is considered to have been no later than the 7th century. The probable date of construction for the Church of S.Grigor Lusaworitch is the 7th century and for the ruined basilican Church of S.Harutiun, located in a nearly cemetery, it is the 5th century. Two inscriptions on the Church of S.Astvatsatsin state that it was erected in 1201 AD by the Amirspasala Prince Zakare Zakarean. The complex subsequently became known as one of the most famous monastic centers in Armenia and it was especially renowned for its school and scriptorium.
